Series Length: 3 Seasons, 37 Episodes
Schedule: Sunday 9:00 PM et/pt on HBO
Description:

Taking place in the 1920's and 1930's, Boardwalk Empire follows the life and times of Enoch "Nucky" Thompson, a political man who rose to power in Atlantic City, acquiring mobster friends, historical acquaintances and and an increasing interest from the federal government along the way.

Following Nucky as he goes from a fairly legitimate political figure, to a mob helped boss, the show never loses pace with the speed and intensity that are well known to the Prohibition Era. From working with brothels, gambling rooms, and bars, to acting like an innocent public service, Nucky is a highly enthralling character who keeps you interested to see just how far he will go to be on top of Atlantic City.

Atlantic City itself is one of the shows stars, as it progresses from a quaint seaside town, to a gambling mecca where anything can be attained and anything goes. Watching the descent of the city from a legitimate resort town to it's prohibition-fueled counterpart fits perfectly with the characters who themselves are experiencing a similar change, driven by the greed that comes with being powerful men.

Often times gritty and almost terrifying, Boardwalk Empire takes you mercilessly into the beginning of American gangsters during the Prohibition era. With it's enthralling characters and raw story telling, the show portrays not just the downward spiral of a town, but the descent that the men in charge must experience to stay at the top. Giving no apologies and never slowing down, Boardwalk Empire leaves you wanting to see just how far Atlantic City's leaders will go to attain everything they desire, legal or not.

The Brutal 'Boardwalk Empire' Finale: How Terence Winter is Like Floyd Mayweather

I thoroughly despise Floyd Mayweather. A boxing champion, he is also a disrespectful braggart, a convicted woman-beater, and a man who spits on the very legacy of boxing at every turn. Yet for all the hate, there is no one better at hyping a fight, drawing viewers, and raking in PPV receipts. Therefore I must hate the man, but begrudgingly respect his accomplishments. Which is exactly how I feel right now about "Boardwalk Empire."

Watch a Preview of Sunday's Season Two Finale of 'Boardwalk Empire'

It all comes down to this. It seems like that's the kind of phrase that could apply to just about every episode of the increasingly violent, tension-filled "Boardwalk Empire," but the last episode was the craziest in two seasons of the award-winning show, and this week more than any other, there will be blood.
