As the event progresses, Hyacinth must navigate her way through an awkward encounter with an old acquaintance from school who constantly embarrasses her in front of Lady Fortescue. Despite all of these challenges, Hyacinth's determination and stubbornness never waver and she continues to strive for the approval of those around her.

In the end, the day is not a complete disaster for Hyacinth. Lady Fortescue is impressed with her driving skills, albeit reluctantly, and even manages to crack a small smile at one of Hyacinth's jokes. As they drive back home, Hyacinth is proud of her accomplishment and confident that she has finally made the leap into the upper echelons of society.
