In The Vampire Diaries season 3 episode 8, Ordinary People, the history of the Original family is explored through a series of flashbacks. The episode opens with present-day Klaus asking his siblings to join him in a toast to their family's legacy. However, Rebekah quickly becomes frustrated with Klaus's obsession with creating more hybrids and storms off.

As Klaus broods, he remembers a time when his mother Esther first turned them all into vampires thousands of years ago. The family was living as humans and Esther was desperate to protect her family from the violence and chaos of their world. She turned them into vampires as a way to give them strength and immortality. However, Klaus was different from the others. He was born to be a werewolf, making him a hybrid of the two species.

Esther was afraid of the power Klaus held and wanted to suppress his werewolf side. She enlisted the help of the witch Ayana, who performed a spell to bind Klaus's werewolf side. The spell had unintended consequences, making Klaus not only a hybrid but also invulnerable to harm. This led to Klaus becoming the violent, unpredictable vampire he is today.

Back in the present day, Stefan and Elena search for clues about the Original family's past in a library filled with old texts. They find one book in particular that catches their eye, but it's in ancient Greek. Fortunately, they discover that Alaric is fluent in the language and ask for his help in translating the text.

Once they have the translation, Stefan and Elena learn that the Original family was not always a tight-knit group. In fact, they were once divided by their own power struggles and rivalries. The book contains information about a family feud that led to the creation of the white oak tree, the only thing that can kill an Original vampire.

In the meantime, Damon and Bonnie continue their quest to find a way to release Stefan from Klaus's control. They enlist the help of Jamie, the only surviving werewolf from Tyler's pack, to help them get closer to Klaus. They learn that Klaus wants to create more hybrids because he wants an army to protect him from his enemies.

Damon comes up with a plan to convince Klaus that he has successfully created another hybrid, using Tyler as his test subject. Damon tells Klaus that he needs more werewolf venom to complete the transformation, and Klaus obliges by feeding him some of his own blood. While Klaus is distracted, Damon and Bonnie perform a spell to break the connection between Klaus and Stefan.

The plan is successful and Stefan is free from Klaus's control. However, Klaus quickly realizes that he's been tricked and is furious. He confronts Damon and Jamie and threatens to kill them both.

The episode ends with Klaus and Stefan coming face to face. Klaus is angry that Stefan has betrayed him and threatens to kill him. Stefan, however, reminds Klaus of the bond they share as brothers. Klaus remembers the flashbacks of their childhood and softens, allowing Stefan to walk away unharmed.

Overall, The Vampire Diaries season 3 episode 8, Ordinary People, explores the complicated history of the Original family and their power struggles. It also sets the stage for future conflict between Klaus and the Salvatore brothers.
