The story of After.Life focuses on a middle school teacher named Anna Taylor. One day, she attends a funeral and meets a man named Eliot Deacon, who is the owner of this funeral home. On the same day, Anna and her boyfriend argue in a restaurant at night. They abruptly leave the restaurant and get into a car accident. Anna wakes up and notices that she is in a mysterious room with the morgue director, Eliot. He begins to clean her wounds and tells her that she has passed away.

Anna tries to escape the room many times, but unfortunately, Eliot catches her every time. He tells her to let go of her life, as if she hadn't been living. One day, Anna finds a room with a phone so that she can contact her boyfriend, Paul, for help. Unfortunately, he is unable to hear her voice and hangs up on her. At this point, Anna believes that she is really dead and comes to terms with her reality.

Eliot then sets up the final preparation for Anna's funeral, when Anna asks him if she can see herself in the mirror for the last time. When she looks into the mirror, she stares at herself while she exhales into the mirror. She notices that her breath appears in the mirror and she begins to have second thoughts about what Eliot told her. She then begins to wonder if she is really dead or not.
