Set in a dark world of crime and punishment, American Hangman is a thrilling and suspenseful movie released in 2019. Directed by Wilson Coneybeare and featuring a stunning cast led by the legendary Donald Sutherland, Vincent Kartheiser, and Oliver Dennis, the movie tells the story of a mysterious online justice system that threatens to disrupt everything we thought we knew about the rule of law.

The plot of American Hangman revolves around a fictional social network that's created to dispense swift and brutal justice to individuals who are suspected of heinous crimes. The social network is called "Juctice4All," and its blind followers are willing to do anything to see that the suspects are punished, even if it means violating the law.

The movie begins with a shot of a dark room, where a man and a woman are seen talking about Justice4All on the computer. The man, who is played by Vincent Kartheiser, sips a glass of scotch as he scrolls through the website, narrating what he sees to the woman. Their conversation is interrupted when a third character, an old man played by Donald Sutherland, bursts into the room, wielding a gun.

We soon learn that the old man is a retired judge who has a bone to pick with Justice4All. He has kidnapped two of the website's most ardent supporters - the man and woman seen at the beginning of the movie - and is holding them captive in his own private chambers without revealing his true identity.

What follows is a cat-and-mouse game between the judge and the two supporters, as they try to figure out who the old man is and what he wants from them. The trio spends most of the movie locked in a room, with the Judge forcing the two supporters to confront the true nature of their beliefs and actions.

With its intense and thought-provoking themes, American Hangman raises several pertinent questions about the role of the justice system in our society, and whether mob justice is ever justified. The movie takes us to a world where social media platforms have the power to determine the guilt or innocence of individuals, and the law is nowhere to be seen.

Sutherland delivers a powerhouse performance as the Judge, infusing the character with a quiet intensity that's impossible to ignore. He is at once vulnerable and menacing, making you empathize with his cause while also fearing for the safety of the two captives.

Kartheiser is also brilliant in his portrayal of one of the captive supporters, showing us the tragic consequences of blindly following a cause without questioning its consequences. And Dennis is equally convincing as the other captive, playing a character who is more calculating and resourceful in navigating the challenges facing the trio.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about American Hangman is the way it manages to create tension and suspense within the confines of a single room. The characters in the movie are stuck with each other, each trying to reveal as much as they can while concealing as much as possible.

For thriller fans looking for an intense and thought-provoking movie, American Hangman is definitely worth checking out. The movie's themes resonate deeply with current debates around technology, social media, and the justice system, and the performances by the cast are top-notch.

American Hangman is a 2019 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.9 and a MetaScore of 38.
