In his manor, Ra's Al Ghul realizes his mistake in teaming with the Joker, while an assistant mentions that Joker has captured Jason Todd. Joker beats Jason with a crowbar, leaving the place before a bomb destroys the warehouse. Five years later, Batman and Nightwing intercept a stolen truck which winds up attracting the attentions of the Red Hood, who seems to know about how the Joker, the first Red hood, came to be. Black Mask orders Red Hood killed. Red Hood simply hijacks a second shipment of weapons. Batman and Nightwing stop him and a chase ensues, allowing Red Hood's training to show by losing them at a train station, where a planted explosive hobbles Nightwing. Batman realizes that Red Hood is Jason. Red Hood is attacked by Black Mask's hit squad, stalling them to team up with Batman, knocking three out. Jason kills the last, claiming that he will kill criminals who step out of line. Red Hood fires an RPG into Black Mask's place. Panicked, Black Hood has Joker released if he'll kill Red Hood. Bruce learns Jason's coffin houses a fake body and visits Ra's. In reparations for the Joker's actions, Ra's made peace with Batman and tried reviving Jason. Elsewhere, the Joker snatches Black Mask and company, attempting to burn them alive for Red Hood's attention. Red Hood reveals his ultimate plan worked; a confrontation with the Joker. Batman saves Black Mask and company, but Jason escapes with a bound Joker. Red Hood repeatedly beats the Joker with a crowbar, then leaves to meet Batman in Crime Alley. They fight until Jason pulls a gun, demanding to know why he hasn't killed the Joker. Batman explains that if he killed, he would never stop. Jason hands the gun over with an ultimatum. Batman drops the gun and walks away, angering Jason enough to shoot at Batman, who dodges and disables the weapon with a batarang. Jason activates a bomb, slumping in defeat. Batman tries defusing the bomb, but Joker stops him, determined to see they all die together. When the smoke clears, only Batman and the Joker are found.
