Francis has a daughter that died way too young. The daughter had a unique relationship with a striptease dancer at the local night club. The night club is located in Toronto. Eric, DJ, and MC are all friends of Francis, and so they go to the club each night because of his daughter, Christina. She does her act at the club each night, and the friends enjoy seeing it.

The exotic part of the movie comes into play when the father meets a pet store owner who enjoys seeing exotic things. The exotic aspects are always finding him at his store. The owner of the pet shop is named Thomas, and he has some interesting things happen to him: unexpected tickets to the opera, a stranger who shares their taxi, and much more. The film uses moments that go forward in time and moments that go backward in time.

The plot unfolds with several stories going at once, but all of the stories are centered around the topic of exotica. In the beginning of the movie, it is like a roller-coaster because you see the highs and the lows. Francis gets herself banned from the nightclub because Eric convinces Francis to touch Christina in an inappropriate way. When Francis did the inappropriate touch, it violated the rules of the night club. Francis finds out that Thomas is doing illegal activies with the books, and so Francis makes Thomas get involved with in Francis's problems with Eric. This is the way that the audience members learn that Francis is obsessed with Christina.

Francis' obsession with Christina is much more complex than the audience members originally realize. The ending scenes show the death of Francis' daughter, and so it goes back to the opening scene.
