Director Richard Linklater's famed Before films have now become a trilogy, with Before Midnight receiving its wide theatrical release June 14, 2013. Like its' predecessors Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, Before Midnight follows artsy couple Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine (Julie Delpy) for a short series of hours, examining their relationship and what it means to be in love. Running at 109 minutes, this American romantic drama will catch up with Jesse and Celine following their surprise, fateful meet-up in Paris in Before Sunset. Jesse, an American author, and Celine, a Frenchwoman, met several years prior while traveling through Europe by train in Before Sunrise. After one romantic evening in Vienna, they fell in love but were ultimately separated. They met up by chance nine years later in Paris in Before Sunset. Now, Before Midnight picks up yet another nine years later, with Jesse and Celine vacationing in Greece with an author friend. They are now parents to twin girls (as well as Jesse's son from a previous marriage) and are enjoying the successes of Jesse's career as an writer. However, Before Midnight examines how they still struggle with love, commitment, marriage, and life. The film provides a deeply personal lens into how they deal with all of these things, eighteen years after their initial meeting as starry-eyed twentysomethings. Stars Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy share screenwriting credits with director Richard Linklater, making the Before movies wholly personal explorations of love and life for all involved. The movie is already receiving widespread critical acclaim following its initial release at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and limited release to major cities in May 2013.
