At the age of 8 Emma was blinded by her mother by smashing her head into a mirror. She had been playing with her makeup, which she was not allowed to do. A child's eyesight matures at the age of 9 so before her eyes had time to mature she had lost her sense of sight. Several years later, Emma is a violinist playing at a local bar where some of the local cops spend their time off duty. One night, after a successful gig, she returns home with her dog to her apartment and is sitting listening to the television when she gets a phone call. It is her doctor who tells her that they have found an eye donor for a surgery to repair her sight. After the first surgery she sees very blurry but can clearly see a vase of flowers on a table. Though she is nervous at first she is very pleased. Her friend Candace visits her but is not pleased with the results. When she gets home she looks into the mirror at herself and becomes frustrated she can not see herself clearly. She listens to music while she drinks and eventually passes out on the couch. When she awakens it's very early the next morning and she can hear banging and glass smashing. She opens her front door and sees a blurry shadow and mistakes it for her landlord. When she awakes again that morning she sees her front door wide open and a man standing there. When she blinks he is gone and the door is again closed. She turns around and she sees him again but he disappears. She goes to check upstairs and no answers. Towards they end they find out Emma is actually the murderer's target. Though it takes them a while to realize this because they think she is hallucinating.
