At the tender age of just 8 years old, Christian bears witness to the unthinkable: his parents’ murder/suicide. Fast-forward 20 years, and we see a man grappling with his tragic past who has astonishingly turned tragedy into a creative outlet and has created a life as a successful artist and writer. Christian’s past is both gut-wrenching and unbearable, and to cope he turns to illegal drugs, trying desperately to cling to his sanity. It’s not until Christian meets the local free press paper’s newly hired assistant editor, Beth, that he finds a reason to begin to let down the walls he’s securely built around his life. Beth’s resemblance to his mother allows Christian to begin to hope for and believe he deserves a normal life. Complicated intertwinings with other characters in Beth’s life, including a boyfriend with abusive tendencies and a shy coworker with a secret desire, create an unfolding of events that none of them could have expected.
