Casey is a street-smart girl in early adolescence who is scooped out of obscurity by a con artist. He thinks that she resembles the long-lost heir of wealthy widow Lady St. Edmund, and if he can convince the old lady of it, she will take the girl in. Once that happens, she can find out where the mansion's treasures are kept and deliver them to the crook. Casey agrees, but once she gets to know the woman, he beloved, hard-working butler and the orphans she has taken in, she becomes fond of them and doesn't want to do her job.
