When matriarch Carmel Boxer passes away, an estranged African-American family are forced to come back together in Huntsville, Alabama to pay their finally respects. While celebrating the life and legacy of this wondrous woman this family is forced to come to terms with a troubled past. This coming together is not an easy one for the Boxer family, especially for patriarch Helms, for the painful memories of his past unrequited interracial love affair are almost too much to bear.
