Ever After: A Cinderella Story is a re-imagining of the classic fairy tale of a girl whose Fairy God-Mothers help her sneak out and win the heart of the charming prince. In this film there are no Fairy God-Mothers, and the Cinderella character named Danielle is not the helpless and pliant maiden who simply does as she's told. In this retelling, Danielle is intelligent, kind, and fights for herself. Her outbursts often find her in trouble with her step-mother, but she manages to show up to the ball with the help of her friends.

While there is no magic power at work to help Danielle, she still manages to win the heart of the prince with more than just her beauty, but her keen sense and smart wit about politics and policies.
