Never Been Kissed is a romantic comedy written by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein and directed by Raja Gosnell. The film stars Drew Barrymore as Chicago-Sun Times editor Josie Geller and Michael Vartan as her love interest, high school English teacher Sam Coulson. A nerd during high school, Josie was picked on and even humiliated on the night of the prom. Now, as a copy editor working for a newspaper she's tasked with getting a story about modern teenage girls by posing as one and enrolling in high school. When undercover editor-turned reporter Josie goes to her first day at the school, it's as terrible for her as an adult as it was for her as a teenager. In spite of her inability to fit in with the popular girls, Josie makes friends with an outsider group of intelligent students. As Josie adjusts, she finds herself falling for her English teacher. Meanwhile, another paper scoops Josie and prints a story about the popular kids, causing her boss to demand that she get involved with them. Josie tries to ingratiate herself with the popular crowd only to make herself an even bigger social pariah. Determined to help his sister and relive his glory days playing baseball, Josie's brother Rob, played by David Arquette, goes undercover at the school too and soon becomes popular. When he befriends Josie the teens who spurned her now welcome her into her fold but in turn she must abandon her other friends. As her popularity grows does do her feelings for Sam and her guilt at the lies she's telling. Things come to a head at the prom when she reveals the truth to all the students and faculty present. Although Sam is at first furious with her, Josie publicly puts her heart on the line and waits for Sam to meet her in the middle of a field during a baseball game. He arrives and gives Josie her first kiss.
