He’s Just Not That Into You was first a bestselling book and then it became a blockbuster movie. With an ensemble cast full of A-list Hollywood celebrities, this 2009 romantic comedy examines every angle of male-female relationships, from dating through divorce, and casual sex to commitment. All of the plots and people are intertwined in a fast-paced and entertaining fashion. For one married couple, played by Jennifer Connelly and Bradley Cooper, their relationship begins to suffer when she no longer trusts that he has quit smoking cigarettes. Add to that lack of trust a flirty relationship between the husband and a budding singer portrayed by Scarlett Johansson and you’ve got a recipe for a ruined relationship. Johannsson’s character has another boyfriend, actor Kevin Connolly, but she doesn’t love him. He is unlucky in love but his real estate career is really booming, thanks to his girlfriend’s pal Mary, played by Drew Barrymore. Barrymore, who is also an Executive Producer on the film, has her own string of dating disasters until she falls for a client. Dating disasters define Ginnifer Goodwin’s character, Gigi, who serves as the narrator of the film as well. Gigi obsesses about every move a guy makes and scares them all away in the process. Justin Long plays a new acquaintance that becomes her relationship expert and ends up giving her answers, advice and affection along the way. The affection disappears from the long term relationship portrayed by Jennifer Aniston and Ben Affleck. After seven years together, Aniston’s character wants a wedding ring. Her ultimatum backfires when her boyfriend won’t say “I do” and they break up and he moves out. After her father, played by Kris Kristofferson, suffers a heart attack she is forced to reexamine her relationships. Through lots of tears and lots of laughs this romantic film is all about reexamining relationships. No matter how you feel about your significant other, you will be into this star-studded film.
