This is a dramatic war movie about one Italian officer. When his camp is overrun, his men decide they should become civilians. The Germans overrun an Italian base during World War II. When this happens, one of the lower rank officers cannot find anyone above him in the chain of command. He is angry when the enlisted soldiers decide that would rather just go home.

Once he gets over his shock, he decides that perhaps the men were correct. He teams up with two other men, and the three of them head home. One their way there are both Germans and Allies who are after them.
