Watch Good Morning, Vietnam
- 2 hr
The 1987 movie Good Morning Vietnam, was a box office success. A daring balance of comedy and drama, it is set in Vietnam during the war in the 1960's. The movie stars the late Robin Williams, who was nominated for a best actor Oscar. Forest Whitaker, and a handful of Vietnamese actors also star. The film is not for children due to graphic violence and strong language. The movie is about Adrian Cronauer, (Williams), a disc jokey enlisted by Armed Forces Radio. Though wildly popular with the troops, many in the Army see him as a threat due to his use of racy language, unflinching criticism of the Army and his satirizing of politicians like President Nixon. Based on the real life Cronauer, he has off-air adventures too, experiencing romance, threats and danger. The Army doesn't want him talking about this on the radio, and this ultimately leads to the film's main conflict. The fact that he plays "hip" music, everything from rock and roll to rhythm and blues and soul, makes many of the army big wigs wary while the troops can't get enough. In fact, it could be argued the soundtrack is another one of the movie's stars.
