Frank and Jesse was a movie written and directed by Robert Boris that tells the story of the James Brothers that terrorized parts of Missouri in the 1840's. It is a story that has been told a number of times throughout the years, but this story is one that is told without a great deal of historical accuracy. It focuses more on the myth of the James brothers as they performed their robberies throughout Missouri. The movie stars Rob Lowe as Jesse James, and Bill Paxton as his brother Frank. The movie commences at the end of the civil war with the James brothers committing robberies along with their cohorts the Younger brothers. Cole Younger is played by Country Western singer Randy Travis. It features lots of action as the brothers and the Youngers rob stagecoaches all over Missouri. They are in a number of different predicaments as they try to elude the sometimes astute, and often clueless Chicago based Pinkerton detectives. and have several run ins with the law as one might expect. The movie casts the brothers as Robin Hood type characters. It was more myth than fact. This was something very different in terms of the actual truth. Nonetheless, the movie got some critical acclaim the time. Those that are fans of Westerns and have an interest in the James game should enjoy this movie although they may have to suspend belief in portions of the movie as this is not the most historically accurate piece of work. It is however an entertaining movie worth seeing, so individuals who enjoy these sorts of movies should like Frank and Jesse. Fans of Lowe may also enjoy the movie as he is one of the featured players. The movie grossed approximately 50,000 dollars at the box office during the release year so it was not well attended.
