Hope Floats is a romance movie that stars well-known actors and actresses. Sandra Bullock plays the main character Birdee, a stay at home mom who must learn a new way of living. Birdee experiences something that no woman ever hopes to deal with. Her husband and best friend have been having an affair. Birdee takes her daughter Bernice and moves back to her hometown with her mother. Birdee and her mom don't have the best relationship at first. Birdee must learn to get along with her mother. Her father is suffering from memory loss and doesn't know much of anything anymore. Bernice blames her mom for her father leaving them. Later in the movie, Bernice's father tells her that he doesn't have room for her in his life anymore. This makes Bernice beyond unhappy that her dad doesn't want her anymore. Birdee runs into an old friend from high school, Justin. Justin was the first boy in high school to ever kiss Birdee. Justin is played by Harry Connick Jr. Birdee fights her growing feelings for Justin at first. Birdee must learn a whole new way of life. She now has to work to support her daughter and herself. Birdee and Justin's relationship grows stronger and they start to see a lot more of each other. They fall in love. By the end of the movie, Bernice accepts the fact that her father isn't coming back. She looks at Justin as her new father figure. Birdee and her mom learn to get along better and have a much stronger bond. Viewers may relate to the situations that Birdee must go through. Hope Floats shows the value of love for family and relationships between mother and child. The movie is rated PG-13 so it is suitable for ages 13 and above. Young adults that watch Hope Floats can learn not to make fun of others like Bernice has dealt with. Hope Floats would be a great addition to someone's romance movie collection.
