In Ice Dreams, a film released in 2009, Melissa, played by Jessica Cauffiel, is a former Olympic figure skating hopeful. She now trains amateur skaters at her family-run ice skating rink in her small Wisconsin hometown. Although her life has moved on, Melissa still struggles to come to terms with her failure at the Olympics. Melissa's world is turned upside down when her estranged father, Ray, played by Brady Smith, returns to town. Ray left Melissa and her mother years ago to pursue his own dreams of becoming a speed skater. He is now a successful coach and has come back to take over the coaching at the rink.

Melissa is furious with her father's sudden appearance and the prospect of him taking over. But as the two begin to work together, they start to mend their broken relationship. Ray teaches Melissa some new techniques, and together, they train Nikki, a young figure skater played by Taylor Faye Ruffin, for the Midwest Regional Championships.

Along the way, Melissa also reconnects with her old flame, Eddie, played by British actor, Ben Easter. Eddie also failed to make it to the Olympics and now works as a Zamboni driver at the rink. The two pick up where they left off and begin to fall in love again.

Shelley Long, best known for her role in Cheers, plays Nikki's overbearing and pushy mother. Long's character puts a tremendous amount of pressure on Nikki to succeed, but as the story progresses, she realizes that winning isn't everything.

The film explores themes of family, forgiveness, and second chances. Melissa learns to forgive her father and reconnects with Eddie, giving their romance a second chance. Nikki's mother learns to let go of her overbearing ways and appreciates the importance of having fun on the ice.

The skating scenes in Ice Dreams are stunning, capturing the grace and beauty of figure skating. The film also showcases the long hours and hard work that goes into training for the sport. The drama and excitement of the Midwest Regional Championships give the film a climactic ending.

Overall, Ice Dreams is a heartwarming story of second chances and forgiveness. The cast delivers solid performances, with Shelley Long bringing her trademark wit and humor to the role of Nikki's mother. The film's stunning skating scenes and beautiful cinematography make it a must-watch for figure skating enthusiasts.
