Jane is shocked to know that she is in fact her employer. Thornfield holds many secrets and Jane and Mr. Rochester develop a close relationship. The two plan to marry but cannot because Richard Mason interrupts the ceremony and states that Mr. Rochester is married to his sister Bertha who is insane. Jane runs away while Edward Rochester pleads for her to stay. Bertha starts a fire and Jane ends up meeting a man named St.John Rivers. He eventually proposes to her but she refuses and returns to Edward who has been blinded from the fire. The story is a classic romance where two people from opposite sides of the track fall in love.
