Jora Dighir Chowdhury Paribar is a Bengali film released in 1966, directed by Bikash Roy. The movie stars Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhavi Mukherjee, and Savitri Chatterjee in lead roles. This film is based on a novel by Saratchandra Chattopadhyay by the same name. The story centers around two neighboring families of Chowdhury and Mitra. The Chowdhury family, headed by Bhabani Prasad Chowdhury, is a rich and influential family, whereas the Mitra family, headed by Harimohan, is struggling to make ends meet. Both families are always at loggerheads with each other, and numerous petty squabbles occur between them.

Bhabani Prasad Chowdhury has two sons, the elder one being the arrogant and hot-headed Sushil, who is always looking for ways to establish his dominance over the Mitra family. In contrast, the younger son, Ramesh, is gentle and sensitive, very different from his elder brother.

The story takes a turn when a mysterious woman appears in the neighborhood. Her appearance causes quite a stir among the two families, and rumors begin to spread about her past. It is soon revealed that she is Bhabani Prasad Chowdhury's illegitimate daughter and that he had abandoned her mother, leading to their misery.

As the story progresses, the woman's presence causes the family members to reflect on their own past mistakes and grudges. Sushil realizes his mistake in his behavior towards the Mitra family and tries to make amends before it's too late. On the other hand, Ramesh falls in love with the woman, not knowing her true identity.

The movie beautifully portrays the themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the power of love. It highlights how past mistakes can have severe consequences and how it's never too late to seek forgiveness and make amends.

The performances by the lead actors are noteworthy, with Soumitra Chatterjee delivering a compelling portrayal of the brooding and hot-headed Sushil. Newcomer Madhavi Mukherjee also impresses with her nuanced performance as the mysterious woman.

The cinematography and direction of the movie are commendable, capturing the essence of rural Bengal beautifully. The music by Robin Chattopadhyay is soothing and blends seamlessly with the narrative.

Jora Dighir Chowdhury Paribar is a timeless classic that still resonates with audiences today. Its message of forgiveness and redemption remains relevant, and the movie serves as a reminder that it's never too late to seek forgiveness and mend broken relationships.
