Watch The Great Gilly Hopkins

This 2015 comedy drama is based on the 1978 children's book by Katherine Paterson. It follows an adolescent girl who is shuffled from foster home to foster home. The resourceful Gilly doesn't let anyone get too close to her, but when she encounters the irrepressible Maime Trotter, everything might begin to change. Sophie Nelisse stars as Gilly, and Kathy Bates takes the role of Maime. The film was directed by Stephen Herek (Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead, The Mighty Ducks, The Chaperone, Jinxed). The Canadian Nelisse is best known for her role in 2013's The Book Thief, which won her a Best Actress Genie Award.
