Watch Mulholland Drive

"An actress longing to be a star. A woman searching for herself. Both worlds will collide… on Mulholland Drive."

Mulholland Drive is a 2001 dramatic noir film directed by David Lynch. The highly acclaimed psychological thriller was nominated for an Oscar for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival. The film has a number of plot twists and turns that will leave the viewer guessing. The plot surrounds a mysterious woman Rita (Laura Harring), who escapes being murdered when a bungling hitmat attempts to kill her.

After the ensuing car wreck on Mulholland Drive, Rita is left in a state of shock and confusion. Rita finds her way to a vacant apartment and is found by Betty Elms (Naomi Watts), who finds a strange key and a huge amount of money in Rita's purse. The movie cuts to a director Adam Kesher (Justin Theroux) who is being strong-armed by the mob to use an unknown actress Camilla Rhodes (Melissa George) in his new movie. When he arrives home, he finds that his wife is having an affair. Things get worse when he's thrown out of his house and find that he's broke.

The movie goes back and forth between Rita and Betty attempting to find Rita's identity, and Adam trying to get his film made. After Betty takes Rita to a restaurant, a waitress name Diane jogs her memory to the name Diane Selwyn, which is in her phone directory. A dead body and blue box that matches the Rita's key only lends more mystery about her identity and who or what she's running from. Harry McKnight (Robert Forster) is a detective who Rita is attempting to elude. Both Rita and Betty's psychological well being seem to alternate between fantasy and reality, as neither are not who they seem to be. The film is obviously open to interpretation because it is never revealed what is fantasy and what is reality. The mystery deepens when Betty commits suicide in the ending scene after a series of terrifying hallucinations.
