Profoundly Normal

"The only thing they considered special...was their love."

This is a dramatic movie about two young people with developmental disabilities. They have been institutionalized most of their lives. Now they are seeking freedom. Ricardo and Donna grew up together at the Forest Haven facility. Their friendship is important to each of them. When the facility burns down, they are sent to separate homes. Neither of them wants to forget the other, and they work to reunite.

After they leave their facilities, they move in together. Eventually, they fall in love and decide to have a family. The authorities forbid this, and they are out to stop this couple from having a normal life together.
