Promised Land is a movie starring Matt Damon. His character is a salesman in the corporate world named Steve Butler. Frances McDormand is his partner Sue Thomason. Their company is looking for the right to drill on the properties of the people living in the small town of McKinley. Steve and Frances must go to McKinley to convince the citizens the offer that has been made is a fair one and really the only way they can start recovering from the financial hardships they are experiencing. Although this seems like it should be an assignment that will be easy to accomplish, Damon’s character quickly finds out that it won’t be as easy as he thought. With some encouragement from a local activist, some of the citizens of McKinley resist giving in to the offer. Rosemarie DeWitt’s character is Alice, a person who questions the motive of the company and whether or not it is looking out the McKinley’s best interest. Of course Steve ends up with a personal interest in Alice which makes him think twice about what he is doing to the rural town for the benefit of his company.
