Red Lights is a thriller film that was written and directed by Rodrigo Cortes. It was released in 2012 to mixed reviews. The film has a running time of 113 minutes and is rated R for it's language and violence. The film stars Sigourney Weaver, Robert De Niro, Cillian Murphy, Toby Jones, and Elizabeth Olsen. It was distributed by Lionsgate Entertainment. The film is centered on a university professor and her graduate assistant. They are played by Sigourney Weaver and Cillian Murphy, respectively. The opening scene introduces the audience into what they do in their spare time; they seek out to disprove the occurrence of paranormal activity. During the class they teach, they present their experiences and provide explanations. The story starts picking up steam when a world-famous psychic, played by Robert De Niro, resurfaces in the public eye. He announces that he will go on tour and start putting on shows again to share his powers with the rest of the world. This provides the graduate assistant with the idea of attending the psychic's shows and proving that he is a fake. The professor forbids him from going near him, but he decides to do it anyway. The reason the professor wants her graduate assistant to stay away is she has history with the psychic and it haunts her. The psychic once brought up sensitive information about the state of her son, who happened to be in a coma at the time. This incident frightened her as she considered the possibility that his powers may be for real. The stress and anxiety of the situation lead to her death, which leads to her graduate assistant exploring the psychic even further. Revelations about everyone's true nature are exposed as light sheds on each characters motivation for the obsessions they carry within.
