It and its sequel, "Die Nibelungen: Kriemhild's Revenge," are based on the German epic poem, "Nibelungenlied." The title character is the son of King Siegmund, and he wants to marry Kriemhild, the princess of Burgundy. He proves his mettle by slaying a dragon, but incurs the wrath of a dwarf king who puts a curse on him. He also helps Kriemhild's brother subdue Brunnhild so he can woo her.
