The Company You Keep is a dramatic thriller that was released in 2013. It was directed by Robert Redford, and it was written by Lem Dobbs and Neil Gordon. The film stars Robert Redford as Jim Grant/Nick Sloan, and Shia LaBeouf as Ben Shepard. The supporting cast consists of Julie Christie, Susan Sarandon, Jackie Evancho, Nick Nolte, Sam Elliott, Terrence Howard, Anna Kendrick, Brendan Gleeson, and Brit Marling. It received an R rating for its use of language. The film opens up with the introduction of Jim Grant. He is wanted for a bank robbery in Michigan that took place decades ago. He was part of the Weather Underground movement, and then went in to hiding after the event. He also had to change his name from Nick Sloan. Problems arise when another member of the Weather Underground is arrested in the present day. This causes Ben Shepard, a reporter, to investigate the story and see if he can find the people who have kept themselves hidden for so long. Additionally, Ben has a girlfriend that works for the FBI. He is able to get key information from her that lets him track down people that Sharon has been in contact with. Thus, he is able to follow the lead of one man who talks to Jim about Sharon. This man is questioned by Ben, and he leads Ben to Jim. Now, Jim starts to feel the pressure of Ben investigating who he really is. As a result, Jim takes his daughter and heads for Canada. He arrives at the border and buys tickets on a bus to Toronto. At this time Ben has been exchanging information with the FBI. His success during his investigation grants him more access, such as interviewing Sharon. Meanwhile, the whole world knows about the hunt for Jim Grant.
