Efficiency expert Errol Wallace has a reputation for recommending large scale sackings as a way of maintaining a high level of performance for the majority of his clients. Wallace arrives at a new client, Balls, a shoe maker with a large staff given the majority of luxuries available by their boss, Mr. Ball. As Wallace completes his efficiency study he is shocked at how happy the staff of Balls are. Wallace sees his opinions change about life when the employees of Balls assist him in his daily life and welcome him as part of their lives.
