Watch The Last Temptation of Christ
- 2 hr 44 min
Jesus of Nazareth is a carpenter. He makes the crosses for the Romans on which they have crucified Jewish revolutionaries. Jesus feels tremendous guilt and anxiety, because he is a good, God fearing man, but has a hand in these horrible atrocities. Judas Iscariot is sent to kill Jesus for his part in the deaths of the dissidents, but after speaking to Jesus, and hearing his anguish and love for God, Judas realizes that this man is not evil, but that he is the Messiah. Jesus begins his ministry with Judas at his side. Along the way he acquires disciples, but seeks out John the Baptist for advice. John and Jesus discuss their beliefs at great lengths. John baptizes Jesus that night and sends him out into the world to begin his ministry, but first he goes into the desert by himself to communicate with God. In the desert he is tempted by three visions but his will is strong and he resists each of them. After raising Lazarus, a local man from the dead, his reputation soars. After an incident at the temple, Jesus receives a sign from God in the form of bleeding hands. Jesus tells Judas to turn him over to the Romans. Jesus is captured and nailed to the cross. A guardian angel appears at his side and tells him that he is not the Messiah, but God loves him. She helps him down from the cross, no one else sees it. Jesus seeks out Mary Magdalene, they wed and have many children. They live happily for any years until Mary dies. On his deathbed an elderly Jesus calls his apostles to him, while outside there is fighting as the Jews rebel and the city of Jerusalem is burning. Jesus finds himself crawling through the burning streets to the spot of the crucifixion. Jesus begs God to rectify the mistake and let him be God's son again. Jesus is back on the cross, completing the last temptation. In ecstasy he declares "it is done" and dies.
