The Poseidon Adventure

The Poseidon Adventure, released on December 1972, is an action-adventure film. It has a running time of 117 minutes and is directed by Ronald Neame. The film is based on a novel by Paul Gallico, which is loosely based on the encounter of a rogue wave by the RMS Queen Mary in 1942. The film stars Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Jack Albertson, Shelley Winters and Red Buttons. The film recounts the story of the SS Poseidon, that is about to take it's final trip before being sent to a scrapyard. The captain of the ship protests, due to the conditions of the old ship, but the new owners ignore the requests and decide to allow the ship to travel to Athens. As the ship is set to sail, an unlikely set of passengers board the ship. The boat is hit by a tsunami, caused by an underwater earthquake, causing the passengers to be trapped within the boat.
