The Sea Inside is a 2004 Spanish true-life drama that explores a man's right to die with dignity. Ramon Sampedro, a man who was paralyzed in a diving accident and spends the remainder of his life a quadriplegic, decides his life is no longer worth living. Paralyzed from the neck down, Ramon is taken care of by a slew of family members, including a dutiful mother. The conservative Spanish government would much rather pay out a hefty monthly stipend to keep Ramon alive than allow him to die on his own terms.
The movie concentrates on the last months of Ramon's life and how he inspires everyone he comes in contact with. His two biggest supporters -- a right to life lawyer, Julia, and friend, Rosa, both love him unconditionally and stand by his side during his decades-long fight with the Spanish government. As his demands to die with grace and dignity fall on deaf ears, Ramon is shown the beauty of life and how he has so much to live for.
The Sea Inside is a 2004 drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 5 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 8.0 and a MetaScore of 74.
