The movie Open Your Eyes is a Spanish film that stars Penelope Cruz and Eduardo Noriega among other well known Spanish actors. The movie starts in a prison in Madrid where Cesar is talking to his psychiatrist Antonio. While Cesar is talking he wears a prosthetic mask. He is telling the doctor about the flashbacks he is having about his life before prison. In his flashbacks he is surrounded by attractive women and is speaking to Sofia. She is the girlfriend of one of his best friends. Cesar ends up taking her back to her house but they do not have sexual relations. In the morning Cesar’s ex girlfriend Nuria see that he is leaving Sofia’s house. She gives him a ride back to their apartment and propositions him for sex. While they are on their way she crashes her car on purpose. She ends up dying and Cesar is left disfigured. Sofia cannot look at him like that and ends up staying with her boyfriend.
This accident marks the downward spiral that Cesar falls into. He gets drunk and sleeps in the street. One nigh he images that Sofia is in love with him and he is able to get plastic surgery to restore his face. While he is having relations with Sofia she turns into Nuria and Cesar smothers her with a pillow out of fright.
While he is in prison more of the story comes out. Right after the accident Cesar worked with a company that specialized in cryonics and allowed them to put him in a trace. This trace allows Cesar to live in a world of fantasy. Cesar ends up drinking too much one night and commits suicide. The company that is providing the cryonics brings him back to life and replaces his real memories with fake ones. Cesar does not remember anything that happening including dying. In Cesar’s mind he is still waking up from the night that he got drunk and feel asleep on the street. He is now convinced that the cryonics is turning his life into a living hell and he jumps off the roof of the company’s headquarters.
