He encounters Vicki, a lumber mill worker played by Kyra Sedgwick. Immediately, they fall in love with each other. After sleeping with his colleague, Walter unravels his haunting past of molesting young girls. Stunned and confused upon hearing such personal information, she tries to gather herself and look for the proper response. But before she can, Walter sends her out of the room. Walter is visited regularly by a suspicious, rude, and provocative law enforcement officer, Lucas. He warns Walter that he is simply waiting for the ex-con's psychological condition to recur. As the movie progresses, Walter finds himself surrounded by temptations. He also discovers another child molester in their area, whom he later beats up after he finds the man had molested a young boy.
