Tuscany is located on the northwest coast of Italy. Under the Tuscan Sun is full of stunning views of the coast and the beautiful countryside of Italy. A bit uncomfortable on her gay tour of romantic Tuscany, Frances breaks away from the tour and discovers a beautiful, old, worn-down villa for sale. She then meets a strange, ice-cream-licking, British woman who, throughout the movie, helps Frances bring out her adventurous side, including buying the villa. Having decided to stay in Italy, Frances finds herself having to live in the dilapidated villa, while finding people to help her fix it up.
Under the Tuscan Sun follows Frances as she finds that she is still a worthwhile person even after more than one man makes her feel that she is not. She starts her life anew in a country where she doesn’t speak the language and knows no one. Frances goes on to meet many interesting people, including three Polish expatriates that she hires to help her with the renovations on the villa. The movie also contains a sub-plot about young love as Frances helps one of her young workers find the girl of his dreams. Filmed with the backdrop of one of the most beautiful places on Earth, Under the Tuscan Sun is the perfect romantic comedy.
