Walking Tall 2004 is a remake of the 1973 movie of the same name. Dwayne Johnson plays the main character Chris Vaughn, a decorated military hero, who returns home to Kitsap County, Washington. Upon returning home he becomes aware of the local economic crisis. Through conversation and interaction, Chris learns his once innocent hometown has been corrupted by his former schoolmate, Jay Hamilton. Jay runs illegal drug activity out of his casino and consistently cheats patrons by using loaded dice. Chris also discovers his former friend, Deni, works as a stripper in the club. Chris decides to confront the illegal activity. This doesn’t go well and a fight ensues. Chris is ultimately subdued by a band of crooked security officers who are on the payroll. They beat him severely, placing him in the hospital. Chris recovers and brings the matter before the sheriff. However, Jay is too powerful, and sheriffs refuse to touch him. Chris’ nephew starts experimenting with drugs and is hospitalized for ill effects from drug use. This pushes Chris over the edge and he uses a wooden club to destroy the casino. He wins a civil case generated by the casino mayhem. During sheriff elections, Chris runs for office and wins the confidence of the town. He fires the entire staff and deputizes his buddy, Ray. Together, they fight against Jay and his crew of thugs. Chris and his Ray find drugs on one of Jay’s men and arrest him. They tear apart his truck in an effort to extract drug information but to no avail. Chris dispatches Ray to stand guard over Chris’ parents and family. In the meantime Chris is visited by Deni who has become his girlfriend during this ordeal. They spend romantic time together. During their interlude, thugs shoot up the local sheriff’s station, nearly killing Chris and Deni. They kill the crew of thugs whose indiscriminate shooting causes the incarcerated thug his life but not before he divulges the location of the local drug plant to Chris. Chris’ parent’s home is attacked but to no avail as Chris’ father and Ray are able to fend off another band of thugs. Chris heads to the local drug plant for the ultimate showdown with Jay. Chris prevails. Jay is incarcerated and the casino is eventually closed.
