Witchery is a horror film released in 1988, directed by Italian filmmaker Fabrizio Laurenti. The movie stars David Hasselhoff, Linda Blair, and Catherine Hickland among others. Although the movie has been panned by critics, Witchery has gained a cult following for its outlandish plot and over-the-top scares. The movie revolves around a group of people who get stranded on an island while on vacation. The island is known to be cursed, and strange things start happening as they try to find their way out. David Hasselhoff plays Gary, a television personality who is on vacation with his pregnant girlfriend. Linda Blair plays Jane, a model who is also on the island. Catherine Hickland plays Jan, a woman who is seeking answers about her mother's death, which occurred on the island years ago. The ensemble cast also includes Annie Ross, Hildegard Knef, and Michael Dante.

The movie starts with a ghostly figure emerging from the ocean and haunting a lighthouse on the island. The group of tourists arrive at the island, and they are greeted by a strange woman named Grace (played by Hildegard Knef) who warns them about the island's curse. Fittingly, her name is Grace, and she handles her character with such grace in the entire movie.

As the tourists settle into their rooms, they notice strange things happening around them. For example, the showerhead in Jan's room sprays blood instead of water. As they explore the island, they come across an abandoned house where they find a book of spells. And then it’s pretty much downhill from there.

As the night falls, the tourists start experiencing the full extent of the island's curse. Gary's girlfriend, Leslie, goes into labor, but the baby is stillborn. Jan is possessed by a demonic force and turns against the group. The group must find a way to escape the island before they all become victims of the curse. Will they make it alive? That’s the plotline that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

Witchery has been criticized for its overuse of cheap scares, but the movie's fans argue that it's all part of the fun. The movie is full of jump scares and jump cuts. There are scenes where characters will appear out of nowhere and scream to startle the audience. Some of the scares are so ridiculous that they elicit laughter from the audience.

The movie's special effects are also worth mentioning. The makeup and prosthetics used to create the demonic characters are impressive, considering the movie's low budget. The movie also uses practical effects like puppetry and animatronics to bring the supernatural elements to life.

The movie's soundtrack is also noteworthy. The movie's opening and closing themes, which were composed and performed by Italian rock band Al Bano and Romina Power, are catchy and haunting in equal measure. The movie also features a cover of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper," which adds to the movie's creepy vibe.

Overall, Witchery is a fun movie to watch with friends. The movie's cheesy scares and over-the-top plot make it a perfect candidate for a movie night. The movie may not be for everyone, but it has a cult following for a reason. If you're in the mood for a campy horror movie with a lot of heart, then Witchery is definitely worth checking out.
