1st Look Season 6 Episode 4 Talk Stoop: Modern Day History Makers

In this episode of 1st Look Season 6, titled "Talk Stoop: Modern Day History Makers," the show takes viewers on a journey through some of the most influential and inspiring stoops in New York City. Host Ashley Roberts sits down with a slew of dynamic individuals who are making waves in their respective fields, from sports to fashion to activism.

The episode kicks off with a visit to Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood to meet with Bianca Jeanty, founder of the art and social justice organization, B.A.M. (Black Art Matters). Jeanty, who has been featured in Forbes and Essence Magazine, shares her journey as an activist and educator, and how her organization is working to make the art world more inclusive and accessible.

Next, Ashley heads to Manhattan's Lower East Side to chat with Anifa Mvuemba, founder, and designer of the groundbreaking fashion brand, Hanifa. Mvuemba made headlines in 2020 with her virtual fashion show, which debuted her latest collection using 3D models. She talks about her inspiration and how she's navigating the industry as a young, Black female entrepreneur.

The episode then takes a turn toward sports as Ashley links up with Angela Ruggiero, one of the most decorated female ice hockey players in history. Ruggiero, who won four Olympic medals during her career, now serves as the CEO of the Sports Innovation Lab, a technology-driven sports research firm. Ashley and Ruggiero have an in-depth conversation about the future of sports and how data and analytics are shaping the industry.

The next stop is Times Square, where Ashley meets with Julianna Zobrist, wife of World Series champion and former Chicago Cubs player Ben Zobrist. Julianna, who is a singer and songwriter, discusses her music career, as well as her journey of rediscovery after going through a divorce and navigating challenges with mental health.

Finally, the episode ends with a visit to Harlem's iconic Apollo Theater, where Ashley catches up with its executive producer, Kamilah Forbes. Forbes, a veteran producer, director, and writer, talks about her work on the HBO adaptation of Ta-Nehisi Coates' "Between the World and Me," as well as the legacy of the Apollo and how it continues to serve as a beacon of Black excellence.

Throughout the episode, Ashley showcases her ability to connect with each of her guests on a personal level, asking about their backgrounds and experiences in order to gain a deeper understanding of what drives and motivates them. The episode as a whole serves as a celebration of the power of diverse voices and the impact that these modern-day history makers are having on their respective industries.
