In A Crime to Remember season 1 episode 6, titled "Who Killed Mr. Woodward?", viewers are taken back to the 1950s in the quiet town of Columbia, Tennessee. The episode follows the murder of prominent businessman Eugene Woodward and the investigation that follows.

Woodward was a wealthy man who owned several businesses in town, including a drugstore and a service station. He was also admired by many in the community for his philanthropy and involvement in local politics. So when he was found shot to death in his home in December of 1954, it shocked the community and left many wondering who could have done such a thing.

The investigation into Woodward's murder was led by the newly appointed sheriff, Buford Pusser. Pusser was a young and ambitious lawman who was determined to solve the case and bring the killer to justice. He quickly ruled out robbery as a motive as nothing seemed to have been taken from the house, and instead turned his attention to Woodward's personal life.

It was soon discovered that Woodward had been having an affair with a local woman named Virginia Keen. Keen was married and her husband, James Keen, was a known troublemaker in town. Pusser suspected that James Keen may have been involved in the murder, especially when he found a gun in Keen's car that matched the one used to kill Woodward. However, Keen maintained his innocence and claimed that he was being framed by Pusser and others in town who had a vendetta against him.

As the investigation continued, Pusser received a tip that led him to a man named Roscoe Jupiter. Jupiter was a former employee of Woodward's who had been fired weeks before the murder. When Pusser questioned Jupiter, he admitted to killing Woodward but claimed that it was an accident. He said that he had gone to Woodward's house to collect some money that he was owed, but when Woodward refused to pay him, a struggle ensued and the gun went off.

Despite Jupiter's confession, Pusser continued to investigate the case, believing that there was more to the story than what Jupiter was telling him. He eventually discovered that Keen had hired Jupiter to kill Woodward as revenge for the affair with his wife. Pusser arrested both men and they were convicted of first-degree murder.

"Who Killed Mr. Woodward?" is a fascinating episode of A Crime to Remember that showcases both the investigative techniques and the prejudices of law enforcement in the 1950s. Pusser's determination to solve the case is admirable, but it also highlights the ways in which law enforcement could sometimes be overzealous in their pursuit of justice. The episode also asks important questions about the nature of revenge and the lengths that some people will go to in order to hurt those who have wronged them. Overall, it is a gripping and thought-provoking episode that is sure to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
