Fred, who works for Mr. Slate at the quarry, is excited for the holiday and eager to earn some extra money to buy his family gifts. Meanwhile, his closest friend Barney is trying to figure out what to get his wife Betty for Christmas.

As the day goes on, Fred finds out that Mr. Slate isn't in the giving mood and will not be giving out bonuses. Upset, Fred returns home to his family and shares the news. However, throughout the night, Fred is visited by three ghosts who show him the importance of Christmas and the importance of giving rather than receiving.

The ghosts take Fred on a journey through his past, present, and future, where he sees the mistakes he's made in the past as well as the wonderful life he could have if he makes better choices. After his experiences with the ghosts, Fred realizes the error of his ways and becomes determined to give back to those that he loves.

The episode concludes with Fred finding a way to give gifts to his family and friends without the bonus from Mr. Slate. In the end, everyone is happy and in good spirits for Christmas Day.
