The episode picks up with Cornelius struggling to keep the show going after losing his two biggest sponsors. He is faced with the harsh reality that without the financial support, Soul Train may not survive. But Cornelius is determined to keep the show on the air and comes up with a plan to convince some big-name artists to perform on the show for free.

Meanwhile, Tessa, a new dancer on the show, is struggling with her own identity. As a black woman with light skin, she feels like she doesn't quite fit in with either black or white communities.
