Sunday Best

Sunday Best is a reality television musical competition that aims to find the next best gospel singing talent in America. It has successfully run for four seasons on Black Entertainment Television, and the fifth season premiered on July 8, 2012. Sunday Best is hosted by renowned gospel singer Kirk Franklin. Its distinguished panel of judges include Yolanda Adams, Kim Burrell, and Donnie McClurkin. Kim Burrell also serves as the contestants' mentor, providing reviews and advice to help them maximize their performance.

Castings are held throughout the country and draw in local talent who have found their voice singing at churches and revivals. A handful of finalists are selected and flown in to participate in a competition that rivals other prominent reality competitions. The finalists are coached by a variety of gospel music superstars including Shirley Caesar and Richard Smallwood.

Each week, finalists must compete against each other and one contestant must leave the show. This process continues until only one winner is left standing. The winner of Sunday Best receives a brand new automobile, a national recording contract, and a cash prize to benefit their community. Runners up have also received recording contracts outside of the show. The contestants have the opportunity to get to know each other and form lifelong friendships with their fellow competitors.

Sunday Best has provided many entry level gospel singers the chance to perform for a major audience and have their voices heard on national television. Many will compete, but only one will be awarded the title of Sunday Best.
