Toy Trauma is the sixth episode of the first season of the highly popular television show, Animal ER. This captivating episode brings in a number of furry patients who have suffered severe injuries, all because of their love for their toys.
As the episode begins, the team at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital is seen rushing to the aid of a golden retriever named Max, whose tongue is stuck on a rubber ball. The ball had got lodged in his mouth, causing him immense pain and difficulty in swallowing saliva and food. The vets have to act quickly as Max's condition is deteriorating rapidly, and his tongue is turning blue. They rush him into the surgical room, where they perform an emergency procedure to remove the ball and save his life.
Meanwhile, a young boxer puppy named Buster is brought in with a torn stuffed toy stuck in his digestive system. The vets suspect that he might have ingested the toy several days ago and now requires immediate surgery to remove it. The surgery is not without its risks, and the team is apprehensive about the success of the operation. After hours of painstakingly searching for toy pieces using endoscopes, the vets find a large piece of the toy lodged in Buster's intestines and successfully remove it. After the surgery, Buster is seen resting comfortably, and his relieved owner is over the moon with gratitude.
Next up is a chihuahua named Bella, who arrives at the Animal ER with a broken leg. Upon investigation, the vets find that Bella's leg was broken after she chewed on a hard plastic toy. The vets proceed with an X-ray and confirm that Bella's leg is indeed broken in two places. They quickly set up a cast to immobilize her leg, and the little chihuahua is seen hobbling away on three legs, with a bright pink cast visible on her broken leg.
Later in the episode, a pug named Winston visits the hospital with a snake toy stuck in his throat. The toy was lodged so deep that it was obstructing his breathing. The team immediately takes charge, and a quick scan reveals that the snake toy was blocking Winston's trachea. They perform an emergency surgery and safely remove the toy from Winston's throat. The little pug is then seen recovering, and his relieved owner takes him home.
The episode ends with a happy note, when a greyhound named Dolly visits the hospital with a chewed up tennis ball stuck in her throat. The vets examine her and discover that the ball is blocking her airway, making it extremely difficult for her to breathe. They take her into surgery and remove the ball from her throat, saving her life in the process. After the surgery, Dolly is seen wagging her tail and licking the faces of her caretakers with gratitude.
