Ep 4. The Tale of the Midnight Ride

In season 1 episode 4 of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, titled "The Tale of the Midnight Ride," the Midnight Society gathers around the campfire to hear the spooky tale of two best friends named Dave and Sam, who live in a small town in the 1700s.

Dave and Sam are inseparable, spending their days playing games and exploring the woods. One night, they overhear the town's blacksmith talking about a hidden treasure located near a nearby bridge. The boys become determined to find the treasure and set out on a midnight ride to search for it.

As they ride through the woods, they encounter several eerie events, including a strange mist and a mysterious horseman. When their horses suddenly stop in front of an unknown cabin, they hear the sound of a woman crying inside. Despite their fear, they enter the cabin and discover a beautiful but sad woman named Melissa, who tells them she is cursed to cry until she is released by true love's kiss.

The boys are sympathetic to her plight and decide to help her break the curse. They leave the cabin and continue their journey, eventually discovering the hidden treasure. However, they are soon confronted by the horseman again, who turns out to be the blacksmith trying to steal the treasure for himself.

In the midst of a struggle, Melissa appears and kisses the blacksmith, breaking her curse and revealing her to be a witch. She uses her magic to send the blacksmith away and returns the treasure to its rightful owner - the town's mayor, who rewards the boys for their bravery and honesty.

As the Midnight Society finishes the story, they hear a strange noise and see a horseman riding towards them. They quickly realize it is merely a practical joke pulled by their friend Stig, but the spooky atmosphere lingers as they extinguish the campfire and head home for the night.
