Ep 1. White Hunter

As Time Goes By is a British sitcom that initially aired in 1992 and went on for a total of nine seasons. The show revolves around the lives of two former lovers, Jean Pargetter and Lionel Hardcastle, who reunite after 38 years, having lost touch after a brief romance in the early '60s.

Season 2 of the show kicks off with the premiere titled "White Hunter". The episode introduces viewers to Lionel's new girlfriend, the glamorous and much younger, Alistair deaconess. The show begins with Jean, Lionel, and their friends all getting together at Jean's house for a dinner party. Everyone seems to be having a good time, and the mood is jovial until Alistair arrives.

Things take an unexpected turn when Alistair arrives, and she sets her sights on Lionel, whom she flaunts around like a trophy. Alistair acts as though Lionel is a prized possession that she has won for herself, and she is determined to show him off to everyone. It's understandable that Jean is taken aback by the sudden arrival of Lionel's new girlfriend, considering that they had just spent the previous season tiptoeing around their feelings for each other.

Jean initially puts on a brave face and pretends not to care, but it is quite clear that Lionel's new relationship bothers her. Lionel, on the other hand, seems oblivious to the impact his new girlfriend is having on his ex-lover. Instead, he is preoccupied with the idea of introducing his new girlfriend to everyone and showing her off.

The episode is marked by an intense showdown between Jean and Alistair, two strong-willed women who refuse to back down. Although Jean manages to get the upper hand by reminding Alistair of Lionel's past, she realizes that Lionel has moved on with his life.

As always, As Time Goes By wonderfully blends humor, romance, and warmth in its portrayal of relatable human relations. The comedic elements of the show are nicely balanced by the sweet and nostalgic moments between Jean and Lionel. Season 2, Episode 1 of As Time Goes By is a great start to another delightful season for fans of the show.
