Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens is an American comedy television series that premiered on January 22, 2020, on Comedy Central. The show stars rapper Awkwafina as Nora Lin, a 27-year-old woman living in Queens, New York. The series is loosely based on Awkwafina's real life growing up in Queens.
In episode 5, titled "Paperwork", Nora's plans for a day of relaxation and doing absolutely nothing are interrupted by her father, Wally (BD Wong). Wally needs Nora's help sorting through his mail and paperwork, as he is overwhelmed by the amount of mail he receives. Nora begrudgingly agrees to help her father sort through his paperwork, but quickly finds herself inundated with stacks of papers and bills.
While going through Wally's mail, Nora discovers a letter from a company claiming to have made a mistake in their billing for Wally's home insurance policy. The company offers to refund Wally for the overpayment, but Nora suspects that the offer might be a scam. Nora sets out to investigate the company, using her skills as a self-proclaimed "detective" to uncover the truth.
Meanwhile, Nora's best friend and roommate, Chenise (Makeda Declet), is busy with a new love interest and is unable to help Nora with the paperwork. Nora is left to tackle the mountain of mail alone, causing her stress levels to rise.
As the day wears on, Nora becomes increasingly exasperated with Wally's lack of organization and tendency to hoard mail and paperwork. She confronts her father about his cluttered living space, urging him to take steps to declutter and organize his home.
Despite the stress and chaos of the paperwork situation, Nora manages to get to the bottom of the home insurance situation and make amends with Wally. In the end, the two sit down to a Chinese takeout dinner, enjoying each other's company and a much-deserved break from the endless piles of bills and paperwork.
Overall, "Paperwork" is an entertaining and relatable episode that explores the universal struggle of managing paperwork and bills. Nora's humorous approach to the situation provides a lighthearted take on the stresses of adulting, while her relationship with Wally adds a touching element to the episode.
