Bad Guys is a Korean crime-thriller television series that premiered on Adult Swim in 2016. The show mainly centres around a detective named Oh Gu-tak, whose mission is to take down violent criminals with the help of three other convicts. The gritty and intense drama stars a talented cast, including Kim Sang-jung, Ma Dong-seok, Park Hae-Jin, Cho Dong-hyuk, Kang Ye-won, Kang Shin-il, Min Jee-a, Kim Hye-yoon, and Kim Tae-hun.

The plot of Bad Guys revolves around Oh Gu-tak, a violent and corrupt detective who was fired from the police department. Gu-tak is given a second chance when he is recruited to form a team with three convicts - Lee Jung-moon, Park Woong-cheol, and Jung Tae-soo - to solve ongoing cases concerning dangerous criminals who are considered untouchable by the authorities.

Lee Jung-moon is a genius hacker who was sentenced to prison for stealing sensitive information from government agencies. Park Woong-cheol is a gangster who has been plotting his revenge on his former boss for betraying him. Finally, Jung Tae-soo is a notorious mobster who has committed several heinous crimes but only receives short sentences due to his wealthy connections.

The partnership of these four misfits is originally met with a lot of resistance from their superiors. However, as they start to bring down dangerous criminals that have evaded the law for years, their methods are questioned less and less.

The show has a non-linear storytelling structure, which adds to its complexity and intensity. The fact that the story flips back and forth in time allows viewers to glean more information about the characters' pasts and motivations, and how these decisions have brought them to the present.

One of the most compelling aspects of the show is its focus on the idea that evil is not just a concept. Rather, it is a state of mind that is often created by societal factors or upbringing. The show's central characters, who are supposed to be the "bad guys," also have moments of moral clarity and redemption. It humanises these characters, evoking empathy from the audience for their experiences and choices.

The show does not shy away from portraying the gruesome nature of crimes, and the investigative processes the police follow to solve them. It has a mysterious and suspenseful tone, with lots of cliffhangers that leave the audience guessing.

In addition to its engaging plot and well-developed characters, the show also boasts stunning visuals, sound design, and intense action scenes that evoke a sense of realism.

The performances of the show's lead actors are astounding, with each character standing out with their unique personality traits and quirks. Kim Sang-jung is particularly impressive in his portrayal of Oh Gu-tak's nuanced character arc, which features the character facing his own demons and grappling with his morality.

Ma Dong-seok's character, Park Woong-cheol, is also a fan favourite, thanks to his charismatic personality and endearing backstory. Park Hae-Jin delivers a captivating performance as Lee Jung-moon, the tech-savvy criminal, while Cho Dong-hyuk's Jung Tae-soo effectively portrays the character's ruthless persona.

Overall, Bad Guys is a thrilling and intense crime-thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. The show is an excellent blend of suspense, action, and social commentary, with great characters and intense performances. It showcases the Korean film industry's excellence in producing quality content, and it is a must-watch for all fans of the genre.
