One of the most anticipated episodes of Bakuman's first season is the 18th one, titled "Jealousy and Love". This episode promises to take the series to new heights as it digs deep into the themes of competitiveness, cooperation, and romance.

As the title suggests, the episode focuses heavily on the theme of jealousy and its effects on the relationships between our main characters. Mashiro's cousin, Miyoshi, has developed a crush on Takagi, which causes her to feel a sense of jealousy towards Azuki, who she sees as her romantic rival. Meanwhile, Mashiro, Takagi, and their friends continue to work diligently towards meeting their deadlines and beating their rivals in the manga contest.

The episode begins with Mashiro and Takagi's editor, Hattori, informing them of the latest developments regarding their competition with the up-and-coming manga team of Nizuma and Fukuda. The news isn't good, as Nizuma has released a new manga series that has captured the hearts of readers and critics alike. To make matters worse, Nizuma seems to have plans to collaborate with Fukuda, who is also a formidable opponent in the manga contest.

As Mashiro and Takagi discuss ways to overcome their rivals, Miyoshi interrupts their conversation and urges Takagi to go on a date with her. While Takagi agrees to the date, he makes it clear that they can only be friends. Miyoshi is visibly disappointed but insists that she's fine with just being friends. However, her body language and facial expressions hint at a deeper sense of disappointment and resentment towards Azuki, who she thinks Takagi has feelings for.

Back at Shonen Jack headquarters, Mashiro's editor suggests that they collaborate with another artist to help them meet their deadlines and improve the quality of their manga. Mashiro is initially against the idea, but Takagi convinces him to give it a shot. The two of them visit an art school and meet a talented artist named Eiji Niizuma, who has a reputation for being a manga prodigy.

Mashiro and Takagi are impressed by Eiji's work and decide to ask him if he would be interested in collaborating with them. Eiji is initially hesitant but ultimately agrees to work with them on a trial basis. The collaboration is a success, and Mashiro and Takagi are able to produce high-quality manga pages in record time.

As the episode progresses, we see more of Miyoshi's growing jealousy towards Azuki, who she sees as Takagi's true love. This jealousy comes to a head when Miyoshi confronts Azuki and accuses her of manipulating Takagi into falling in love with her. Azuki is visibly hurt by Miyoshi's accusations but keeps her composure and tries to explain that she and Takagi are simply working towards a common goal of becoming successful manga creators.

The episode ends on a cliffhanger as Nizuma confronts Mashiro and Takagi and challenges them to a manga showdown. This showdown promises to be the ultimate test of their manga skills and will determine who will come out on top in the manga contest.

Overall, "Jealousy and Love" is an emotionally charged episode that explores the complex relationships between the main characters. The theme of jealousy is particularly prominent, and we see how it can strain even the strongest of friendships. The episode also furthers the plot by introducing Eiji Niizuma, who promises to be a formidable opponent in the manga contest. Fans of the series will undoubtedly be eagerly awaiting the next episode to see how the showdown between Mashiro, Takagi, and Nizuma will play out.
