While researching the culture and survival tactics of different tribes, Stroud stumbles upon a rugged, savage, and unforgiving terrain where he must use his skills as a survival expert to survive in the jungle. Stroud finds himself caught up in a tough situation where he struggles to find his way back to civilization. He also takes a bone-chilling dip in the river and spends a great deal of time up in the trees, where he must fend off leeches, malaria and hordes of insects. He deals with constant rainfall and severe dehydration, which made the episode particularly grueling and difficult to watch.

Throughout this episode, Les Stroud manages to paint an elaborate picture of the tribal world in Papua New Guinea, where the foundation has been laid by the Melanesian culture.
