Beyond Survival With Les Stroud is a fantastic television series that features survival expert Les Stroud traveling to some of the most remote and hostile environments on the planet, where he must use all of his outdoor skills and knowledge to make it out alive. In each episode, Stroud is challenged to survive for up to ten days with nothing more than a knife, some basic equipment, and his wits. In this episode, entitled Papua New Guinea, Stroud heads to the jungles of Papua New Guinea in search of the proud and resonant Melanesian culture, but also feels the need to take an impromptu survival situation which proves to be frightening and difficult.

Papua New Guinea is the eastern half of the island of New Guinea, which is situated north of Australia, and is one of the world's most remote and unexplored regions. On his journey, Stroud meets some fascinating people, including a hunter-gatherer tribe who still live according to their ancient traditions, a woman who demonstrates how to cook taro, a local starch, by wrapping it in wild leaves and baking it in an underground oven, and a group of warriors who perform an electrifying dance that symbolizes their readiness for battle.

While researching the culture and survival tactics of different tribes, Stroud stumbles upon a rugged, savage, and unforgiving terrain where he must use his skills as a survival expert to survive in the jungle. Stroud finds himself caught up in a tough situation where he struggles to find his way back to civilization. He also takes a bone-chilling dip in the river and spends a great deal of time up in the trees, where he must fend off leeches, malaria and hordes of insects. He deals with constant rainfall and severe dehydration, which made the episode particularly grueling and difficult to watch.

Throughout this episode, Les Stroud manages to paint an elaborate picture of the tribal world in Papua New Guinea, where the foundation has been laid by the Melanesian culture. At the same time, the episode forms a strong reminder that nature can be both dangerous, as well as rewarding and beautiful. The series' renowned host, Les Stroud, skill makes a picture-perfect survival strategist, and Papua New Guinea is an extraordinary example of his prowess. The show is perfect for anyone who values the fascinating world of survivalism, anthropology, and history of some of the most remote locations of the world. Papua New Guinea is another fantastic addition to this fantastic series that elevates the purpose and value of survival, relationships and human nature.
